Laparoscopic Spay
We are proud to be the sole provider of laparoscopic spays in the South Puget Sound region. This innovative approach to spaying your female dog involves minimal invasion, utilizing two tiny keyhole incisions (only 1-2 cm in size) instead of the traditional open abdomen technique. By employing a sophisticated surgical camera and instruments inserted through these small incisions, we can delicately complete the procedure. A laparoscopic spay or “lap spay” is particularly advantageous for deep-chested or high-energy dogs who may find it challenging to stay calm during a prolonged recovery.
Other Minimally Invasive Surgeries
In addition to laparoscopic spays, we also provide a range of other minimally invasive surgeries, including:
- Liver Biopsy
- Otoscopy/Rhinoscopy
- Prophylactic Gastropexy
- Cystoscopy for Bladder Stone Removal
Pet minimally invasive surgeries result in various benefits to your pet compared to traditional surgery. Using laparoscopic equipment to visualize the area inside your pet’s body allows for more precision in surgery and decreases blood loss. Smaller incisions mean fewer postoperative issues such as infections, swelling, accumulation of fluid (seromas), and other wound problems like dehiscence. These smaller incisions also mean a shorter recovery time of around 3-5 days, compared to an average two-week recovery period with standard surgery. Minimally invasive pet surgeries also typically reduce pain, meaning less anesthesia may be needed during your procedure, and your pet experiences less discomfort afterward, which, in turn, can result in fewer pain-relieving medications.
