Pinehurst Veterinary Hospital is a namesake of Dr. Spath’s childhood neighborhood in San Jose, California. Growing up in Pinehurst Neighborhood was idyllic, full of swimming at the local Cabana Club, after-school football or Kick the Can, knocking on doors to see who could play, and not coming home until the streetlights came on. Rickety stick-built clubhouses provided privacy to share secrets and helped form the most solid foundations for friendships which became stronger year after year.

In Pinehurst, Dr. Spath’s parents created an inviting and supportive home for their six children. Crackling fires in the living room fireplace were common, providing an encouraging venue for completing homework assignments, listening to music, or reading a good book. Dinner every night was at 6:00 sharp, and it provided a platform for each family member to have a voice, and to learn the art of listening. Hers was a childhood every kid deserves.
