Signs Your Pet Needs Sick Care
If you have any reason to think they aren’t feeling well, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and bring them in for a checkup. There are also times when our pets’ bodies are telling us there is something wrong without us realizing it. Here are a few symptoms that commonly represent early signs of illness, but many people don’t realize are significant, or they assume it's just “old age”. Please schedule an appointment right away if you notice any of the following:
- Increased thirst
- Increased urination (this can be urinating frequently OR urinating a large volume)
- Unexplained weight loss or gain
- Panting excessively or loudly (dogs)
- Vocalizing, especially loudly and at night (cats)
- Fur loss
- Bad breath
- Decreased tolerance for exercise
- Dry heaves (vomiting without anything coming up - this can be a true emergency for dogs, especially large dogs)
- Vomiting (side note - it is not “normal” for cats to vomit regularly!)
- Diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Loss of vision
- Discharge or odor from ears
- Excessive scratching, chewing, or licking
Our team also provides sick care services for pets with diabetes and other chronic illnesses. When you bring your pet in, we’ll perform a thorough physical exam and may recommend further testing to reach a diagnosis. This may include blood screening, urinalysis, fecal analysis, and/or diagnostic imaging. Our team will discuss everything with you to make sure you understand what’s going on with your precious pet.
